About Us

We are a group of volunteers who love real ale and give up our free time to help make sure there’s always a good pint of real ale, cider or perry available in pubs and clubs across St Helens and the wider districts. With its wide range of pubs, each with its own unique atmosphere and selection of beers, St Helens has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a traditional pub with a friendly locals’ feel, or a more modern venue with a wider range of beers on tap, you’re sure to find it in St Helens.

St Helens CAMRA comes under Merseyside and Cheshire region and currently has over 700 members. Our main aim is to campaign for quality real ale, cider and perry in the thriving pubs across St Helens and outlying districts and advocate pubs and clubs as social centres in our local community, while promoting the benefits of responsible social drinking and inclusivity for all.

We have a committee that meets twice a month and members are elected at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) each April. Our committee meetings usually take place on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at a real ale pub in our area. These tend to be longer meetings where more formal business is discussed, however all members are welcome to join. Our branch meetings usually take place on the 4th Thursday of the month. These are informal and a great way to have a general catch up with local pub and social news – everyone is welcome to these meetings and then join us for a pub wander afterwards.  We may only be a small committee (we are looking for more members to join us), but we are very active in organising events like coach trips, pub crawls, members events and, of course, beer festivals.

We love to get out and about and meet like-minded people who love a good pint and a chat. We may only be a small committee, but we are very active in organising social events like coach trips, pub crawls, members evenings and beer festivals. We want everyone who visits our real ale pubs to have a great time, feel safe and enjoy what our town and outlying districts has to offer.

CAMRA is considered one of the most successful consumer organisations across Europe. Founded by four real ale enthusiasts back in 1971, today we represent beer drinkers and pub-goers across the UK.

Whether you’re a seasoned real ale expert or just starting out, there’s a place for everyone at one of the town’s many great real ale pubs. So lets all join together in making St Helens a great destination for real ale in the North West.
