 PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release

St Helens and Districts CAMRA to host beer festival at Ruskin Sports Village.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of being a CAMRA branch in its own right, St Helens and Districts Campaign for Real Ale will be holding a ‘Beer and Burger’ festival at Ruskin Sports Village from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 September 2023.

The organisation, which campaigns for real ale, community pubs and consumer rights, is hoping to bring the town together for a weekend of great real ale, food, and entertainment. It’s the first time in many years that the branch has put on such an event, and it’s hoped that this will be the first of many more.

Chair of St Helens and Districts CAMRA, Gillian Yates, said:

“I’m so pleased we have got the chance to put on a beer festival again. It’s been something that we have been asked about a lot by our members, but we just haven’t had the resource to do it before now. It’s wonderful to have this opportunity especially in our 15th year – what a great way to celebrate.

“We hope to attract people from all over the town and beyond who enjoy drinking real ale and even those who don’t as there will be something for everyone. The event will be family friendly, so everyone is welcome. It’s being held at Ruskin Sports Village, who we can’t thank enough for their support, making use of their excellent bar and restaurant facilities.”

The Wicket bar will be open selling its usual fair of lagers, wines and spirits – while the brand new outdoor decked area will house over 30 real ales and real ciders over the weekend, plus there will be a bar showcasing international beers. The Wicket will also be selling a range of delicious burgers for when the munchies strike.

“These events don’t happen by magic,” said Gillian.

“To make this a really successful event we will be looking for volunteers to help us run the festival and more details will be available over the coming weeks and months so keep an eye on our website and social media channels.

“We will need people to do all kinds of jobs such as helping with set up and pack down of the kit before and after the event, working the behind the bar, selling tickets, washing glasses and site security. Everyone who volunteers will get a festival t-shirt which must be worn while they are on duty, and they will receive discounted food and drinks on site.”

The branch will also be looking for local businesses or individuals to sponsor various aspects of the event such as the glasses, t-shirts, festival programme etc. Sponsorship details are available on the website https://sthelens.camra.org.uk/beer-festival  and anyone who is interested is asked to email beerfest@sthelens.camra.org.uk
