About Us

Passionate About Pubs, Pints and People in St Helens

We’re a lively community of volunteers brought together by one simple passion: great real ale, cider, and perry. Our goal is to make sure that wherever you go in St Helens and the surrounding districts, a quality pint is never far away.

Whether you’ve been championing traditional brews for decades or you’re just starting to explore the world of real ale, you’ll feel right at home with us. St Helens and Districts boast a pub scene full of character — from cosy, history‑soaked locals to modern bars pouring bold, ever‑changing cask and craft favourites.

We’re here to celebrate it all. The brilliant venues. The dedicated publicans. The pints worth talking about. Together, they make St Helens a genuine destination for anyone who loves real ale.

St Helens and Districts CAMRA is part of the Merseyside and Cheshire region and proudly represents over 700 members. As volunteers, we give our time to protect and promote real ale, cider, and perry — and to make sure that quality beer continues to thrive in the pubs and clubs across our area.

But our mission is bigger than beer. We campaign for vibrant, well‑supported pubs, encourage responsible social drinking, inclusivity of all and champion pubs and clubs as essential hubs of community life. Whether you’re after a traditional locals’ pub or a modern venue with adventurous taps, St Helens and Districts has something for every taste. Because at the heart of it all, we believe good beer brings people together.

Our committee is elected each April at our Annual General Meeting, and we meet formally on the second Wednesday of every month in a local real ale pub. All CAMRA members are welcome to join us. We also host relaxed branch socials on the fourth Wednesday or Thursday of each month — a perfect chance to catch up on local pub news, enjoy a pint, and often head out on a friendly pub wander.

Even as a small committee, we stay busy organising coach trips, pub crawls, members‑only events, relaxed meet ups and we have been known to host the occasional beer festival! We’re always excited to welcome new members who want to help keep the spirit of real ale alive in our community. If you enjoy good beer and good company, you’ll fit right in.

CAMRA itself is one of Europe’s most successful consumer organisations. Founded in 1971 by four enthusiasts, it now represents beer drinkers and pub‑goers across the UK.

So whether you’re a seasoned expert or just discovering your first favourite pint, there’s a place for you in St Helens’ thriving real ale scene. Join us in supporting local pubs, celebrating great beer, and keeping St Helens firmly on the map as one of the North West’s standout destinations for real ale.
