Get Involved
⭐ Why We Need YOU!
St Helens has a proud real ale heritage — but keeping that heritage alive doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because a small group of passionate volunteers give their time, energy, and enthusiasm to make sure great beer continues to thrive in our pubs and clubs.
Right now, that group is very small.
Even though our branch has more than 700 members, only a handful are active. And while we’re incredibly proud of what we achieve, the truth is simple: we can’t keep doing it without more people stepping forward.
If you care about good beer, great pubs, and keeping our local venues alive, then you’re exactly who we need. You don’t need special skills. You don’t need loads of spare time. You don’t need to join the committee. You just need to be willing to get involved in whatever way works for you.
Every extra person strengthens the branch. Every new voice helps us grow. Every small action makes a difference.
And yes — you would make a difference.
⭐ How You Can Get Involved
Getting involved doesn’t mean giving up your evenings or signing your life away. It simply means choosing one or two small things that fit your lifestyle and help keep the branch active.
Here are some easy, flexible ways to help:
-
Join us at a social event. Come for a pint, meet friendly people, and discover what we’re all about.
-
Engage with us online. A like, share, or comment on Facebook or Instagram helps us reach thousands more people.
-
Share pub news. Spotted a new beer? A change in hours? A pub reopening? Tell us — it keeps our info fresh.
-
Volunteer at a beer festival. Even an hour behind the bar makes a huge difference.
-
Help keep our branch pubs on the CAMRA website and the Good Beer Guide up to date. Accurate info helps us champion the best pubs in our area.
-
Support CAMRA campaigns. A quick email to your MP can help protect pubs and breweries.
-
Write something for our newsletter. A pub visit, a beer you loved, an event you enjoyed — your voice matters.
-
Submit beer scores on the CAMRA website. These scores decide our Pub of the Year. No scores mean no winners.
⭐ Become a Pub Contact
One of the most valuable roles you can take on is becoming a pub contact. It’s simple, low‑pressure, and incredibly helpful. You’d be our eyes and ears for your local pub — passing on updates, keeping us informed on anything they’ve got going on, new and exciting beer selections and helping us build strong relationships with venues.
It’s a small commitment with a big impact.
⭐ Why Your Involvement Matters
Every thriving CAMRA branch is built on active members — people who show up, speak up, and help out in whatever way they can. When more people get involved, we can:
-
run more socials
-
support more pubs
-
organise more trips and events
-
strengthen our campaigning
-
keep St Helens and surrounding districts firmly on the map for real ale
If you’ve ever enjoyed a great pint in a great pub, you’ve already benefited from what CAMRA does. Now we’re asking you to help us keep that going.
Because the future of real ale in St Helens isn’t guaranteed — but together, we can protect it.
We are all volunteers so let’s help each other to keep the St Helens real ale scene flowing. If you are interested in helping and want to know more then get in touch.
