Get Involved
Why do we need you?
We are (currently) a really small group of volunteers who love real ale and give up our free time to help make sure there’s always a good pint of real ale, cider or perry available in pubs and clubs across St Helens and the wider districts. Although we have over 700 CAMRA members assigned to St Helens and Districts branch, only a small number are active – either on the committee, or non committee members attending meetings and social events. We’d love to see more of you joining us when you can – it’s the only way we can stay viable as a branch if members take part. Everyone is welcome to any of our events and meetings and we encourage feedback and suggestions about ways we can get you more involved and have an even more active branch.
How can you get involved?
We completely understand that most people don’t have a lot of free time (and generally people don’t like meetings) but that doesn’t mean you can’t get involved and become an active member of our branch. There are all kinds of ways you can get involved. One of the easiest ways is to simply engage with us on our social media channels. We have over 1.3K Facebook followers and almost 3000 on X (Twitter).
Another easy way to get to know more about who we are and what we do is to attend one of our many social events — you don’t have to be on the committee or attend meetings to join us for a pint and a chat or to come to one of our events. We are always looking for people to help lighten the load and help us out and there are a few ways you can help:
• Check out local pubs and feed back any news on the real ale scene to keep us up to date
• Volunteer at a beer festival
• Help keep our Good Beer Guide entries up to date on the WhatPub website
• Writing to your local MP in support of campaigns and petitions
• Write an article for our newsletter (if you’ve attended one of our events or elsewhere)
• Engage with us in chat on our social media channels
• Submit beer scores through WhatPub to go towards our Pub of the Year scoring (no scores means pubs can’t qualify for Pub of the Year)
Our Pubs Officer still needs volunteers to act as a pub contact for their local. There wouldn’t be a big time commitment but we would ask you to be our eyes, ears and sometimes mouth within the pub(s) you are contact for. If you would like to be a pub contact get in touch for more information.
We are all volunteers so let’s help each other to keep the St Helens real ale scene flowing. If you are interested in helping and want to know more then get in touch.
