We are a dedicated group of volunteers united by a shared passion for real ale, cider, and perry. Our mission is simple: to help ensure that a quality pint is always within reach in the pubs and clubs of St Helens and its surrounding districts. 

Whether you’re a long-time lover of traditional brews or just beginning your journey into the world of real ale, you’ll find something to enjoy here. St Helens is home to a diverse and vibrant pub scene, from cosy locals with character and charm to modern bars pouring an ever-changing range of cask and craft favourites.

St Helens and Districts CAMRA comes under Merseyside and Cheshire region and currently has over 700 members. As volunteers, we give our time to champion real ale, cider, and perry—working to ensure quality beer is always available in pubs and clubs across St Helens and the surrounding districts.

Our mission goes beyond just great beer. We actively campaign for thriving local pubs, support responsible social drinking, and promote pubs and clubs as vital hubs of community life. Whether you’re seeking a traditional pub with a warm locals’ feel or a modern venue with an adventurous beer list, St Helens offers something for everyone. We believe that good beer brings people together. 

Members of the committee are elected at our Annual General Meeting (AGM), held every April. Our formal committee meetings take place on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at a local real ale pub, where we discuss important branch matters—although all members are welcome to attend. In addition, our informal branch socials are held on the 4th Wednesday or Thursday of each month. These meetings are a relaxed way to catch up on local pub news and social events, and everyone is invited to join in, followed by a casual pub wander.

Though we’re a small committee, we’re always busy organising fun and exciting events, including coach trips, pub crawls, members-only events, and on occasion, beer festivals! We’re always looking for new members to join us and help keep the spirit of real ale alive in our community. We love to get out and about and meet like-minded people who love a good pint and a chat. 

CAMRA is considered one of the most successful consumer organisations across Europe. Founded by four real ale enthusiasts back in 1971, today we represent beer drinkers and pub-goers across the UK. 

So whether you’re a seasoned real ale expert or just starting out, there’s a place for everyone at one of the town’s many great real ale pubs.
