The 2027 Good Beer Guide is out now!

The 2027 Good Beer Guide is out now – and features 11 of our most outstanding real ale pubs and clubs across St Helens and Districts.
The Good Beer Guide is the definitive guidebook to pubs that serve great cask beer across the UK. The Guide uses an independent, volunteer-led selection process that makes it the authoritative and trusted voice of cask beer drinkers in the UK.
This is the complete book for beer lovers and for anyone wanting to experience the UK’s finest pubs. The Good Beer Guide is completely independent, with listings based entirely on evaluation by CAMRA members.
The 2027 Guide is fiercely independent. It is the result of the time and effort of our volunteers across the UK to find the pubs serving the best kept cask beer. In our branch, we rely on our members to consistently score the quality of the beer they drink in the pubs they visit. These scores have real meaning, as they determine which pubs are shortlisted for our Pub of the Year competition and ultimately which pubs will make the Good Beer Guide.
This year, CAMRA also released the flagship report, ‘Beer in the UK ‘, alongside our campaign to expose how ‘Big Beer’ is dominating the UK beer market, and how ordinary drinkers and independent brewers lose out as a result. CAMRA wants the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to launch an investigation into the UK on-trade beer market, to find ways to get a better deal for drinkers, licensees and independent brewers.
To see which of the 4,500 pubs, 1,700 brewers and 5,000 beers have made the cut – including the 11 in our branch, check out the CAMRA website.
“What makes the perfect pub? Ask 50 people and you might get 50 different answers… My preferences might not be yours, but there are a few things we can probably agree on. We want the beer to be good and the welcome to be friendly. We want to see signs that the bar represents the best of its community or neighbourhood. We want to feel like we fit in.”
